Delta, the American airline, has decided that will make dogs travel directly in the cabin with their owners.
The reason? Too many animals died or disappeared in the past decade, due to the old transport system.
A choice that Delta dictated by fully respecting the rights of animals and that is likely to stimulate the “competitors” to move in the same direction.
Usually with Delta, some small animals can travel in the cabin with the passenger (“carry-on pet”), while for all others is required transport with the Delta Cargo (“Ship your pet with Delta Cargo”), which it provides specific standards and measures for the transport of animals.
Since March 1, 2016, pets not allowed in the cabin must be shipped as cargo with this system. “Many of us in the Delta are animal lovers, we know they are important members of the family – explains Bill Lentsch, senior vice president – This change will ensure a high quality and reliable service for pets when their owners will choose to ship it with Delta Cargo”.
Quadrupeds and bipeds of medium or large size usually travel in the pressurized cargo hold, in reinforced cages, it must be well ventilated, waterproof and on the bottom should be a cloth and/or other absorbent material.
Some companies also do not embark sedated dogs and brachycephalic dogs and cats (or with crushed snout), which need more room to breathe.
